Back when the internet started and smartphones were dull, Ask Jeeves was the go-to site if you wanted to know anything immediately. And when I say immediately I mean dial-up speed immediately, which was probably similar to the NBN speeds in the Mountains of today, but that’s another story…
Fast forward to 2017 and the Ask Roz app has become the hub and pulse of the Blue Mountains, offering locals and tourists a snapshot of what’s on, where to go and of course the latest news. The app includes a local regional newspaper section which (drumroll please…) now includes The Haze magazine, feeding the Music, Arts and Culture content from the magazine’s new website directly inside the app.
Mark Alston, publisher of The Haze magazine, says “We're excited to be included in the Ask Roz Blue Mountains app, as we see it as a great way to engage with existing readers and attract new ones. Our team put a lot of their time into writing some amazing local stories so it’s fantastic to be a part of an app that can help to spread the Haze further”.
The Haze magazine was founded three years ago and has grown over 11 editions as an underground and alternative, independent media source which has forged its niche of music and arts to gain an ever expanding following of passionate readers. The team includes photographers Brigitte Grant and Pat Bowden, local radio heroes Willem Hendriksen and Roger Kidd, features writer Corin Shearston, news reporter Elissa Jamieson, film buffs Mathew Currey and Caleb Marshall, and arts reporters Kay Nightingale and Marco Grilli, plus a long list of contributors and sponsors that make the magazine a mini-community.
“Our aim has always been to connect the dots between the music, arts, and culture scenes in the greater Blue Mountains region,” says Mark. “I feel like the addition of The Haze to the Ask Roz app will help the magazine’s growth and the whole ‘scene’ along with it.”
