Sweeping sonics with ‘Secrets Through a Soundglass’

Experience a realm of music that dares to be different! Join the sonic adventure at The Joan for the world premiere of Secrets Through a Soundglass on 24 February at 7.30pm. Exploring texture in sound and silence, this unique performance features the Sydney Art Quartet in its debut appearance at The Joan, presenting five new works in its playful style, deftly side-stepping cliché and orthodoxy.

Written for violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano by acclaimed composers Felicity Wilcox, Christina Green, Peggy Polias, Catherine Golden and Dan Thorpe; Secrets through a Soundglass takes its cues from experimental music of the 20th and 21st centuries, as researched by Sean Botha at Western Sydney University.

Praised by Limelight Magazine for its “gripping intensity”, the Sydney Art Quartet has gained a following for its quirky presentations of exquisite music. Joined by Christina Green and Daniel Thorpe (piano) and Catherine Golden (double bass) they’ll present the music as the art of sound, like you’ve never heard before.

Each piece in Secrets Through a Soundglass focuses on the shape of natural sound – as well as silence and quiet spaces. These come to life, as imagined by the composers, filled with expectation and emotion, bringing audience members along for the ride.

It’s sure to be a magical one.

Tickets: Adult $45 Concession $30 Student $20 Under 30 $20 available online www.thejoan.com.au or by phone 4723 7600 or Box Office 597 High Street Penrith.
