Visionary International Duo Xylouris White @ Blue Mountains Theatre

Following a brilliant performance at the Sydney Opera House for this year’s VIVID FestivalBlue Mountains Theatre is thrilled to present the internationally acclaimed duo Xylouris White live at Blue Mountains Theatre on 21 September.

Firmly rooted in the past and future, Xylouris White’s modern-traditional chemistry is eclectic and exhilarating in equal parts. Playing Cretan music of original and traditional composition, the band consists of Georgios Xylouris on Cretan laouto and vocals and Jim White on drum kit.

Xylouris is known and loved by Cretans and Greeks at home and abroad and has been playing professionally from age 12. Born into a musical dynasty, he learned his craft at his father’s knee – legendary Greek composer and musician Psarantonis.

Australian Jim White, currently based in the US, is respected throughout the world as the drummer of the Dirty Three, Venom P Stinger and his collaborations with PJ Harvey, Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, and Cat Power, Warren Ellis and Nick Cave.

For the last four years George and Jim have been performing as Xylouris White, the culmination of 25 years of friendship forged through music and place.Almost defying definition, their music might be described as an innovative concoction of free-jazz, avant-rock and ages-old Greek folk traditions:

Xylouris White has garnered much critical and popular acclaim, their 2014 debut album Goats topping the Billboard World Music chart, with this concert celebrating the release of their third album, 'Mother'.

Get ready to be captivated by the evocative, mesmerizing music from these two extraordinary musicians.

Blue Mountains Theatre presents Xylouris White, Friday 21 September 8pm.

106 Macquarie Road Springwood. Tickets $36/$33.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the Box Office,

"The wild-haired duo's intense, tumbling, shimmering collisions of sticks and strings conjure an almost mystical connection between ancient Mediterranean folk and free jazz” - Michael Dwyer, Sydney Morning Herald 2016.

“It’s dark and magical music, and there’s nothing else like it.” - TheArtsDesk.com *****
