Long Weekend opera celebrations at the Hydro

Guests of the Hydro Majestic Hotel will be swept along in a sensual cloud of music this long weekend as part of the Blue Mountains Opera Festival. On Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1, the Hydro will be diving into the past with talented music ensembles tackling some of the most monumental musical masterpieces in history.

The weekend promises to be abundant with passion and cheeky fun as the grandest of grand hotels will offer an array music that will satisfy even the most serious opera buff. Check out the schedule below.

The Saturday!

High Tea with Mozart

Soak into your surroundings and enjoy a high tea accompanied with Mozart's masterpiece ‘Clarinet Quintet’ performed by Sydney Symphony Orchestra clarinettist Frank Celataand theEnigma Quartet (you may even catch the singers giving a sneak preview of the evening concert).

The Opera Gala Dinner Concert

After a glowing inaugural success last year, Opera Australia tenorBrad Cooper,mezzo/soprano Sally Wilson and bass Damian Whiteleywill take guests on an evening of drama and passion. The singers will be accompanied by Sun Yi and Monique Irik on violin, Neil Thompson (viola), Minah Choe (cello) and Grace Kim (piano). Guests will also be greeted with drinks and canapes on arrival at 5.30pm followed by an alternate two-course dinner with four-hour beverage package before the 7pm concert. Cost: $150pp.

The Sunday!

High tea and the Mendelssohn Octet!

Festivities continue as eight of the finest string players perform with the ever-popular Mendelssohn Octet featuring the talents of Sun Yi, Marianne Broadfoot, Monique Irik and Kerry Martin on violins, Rosemary Curtin and Neil Thompson on violas and Minah Choe and Rowena Macneish on cello.

*The high tea concert day packages each cost $65pp. Each package includes a glass of sparkling wine or cocktail on arrival with a sumptuous three-tier offering including a selection of gourmet sandwiches, scones, pastries and handmade desserts served with tea and coffee. The high teas will be served between 10.30am and 12pm with the concert commencing from 12pm to 1pm.
