On Saturday 15th July at 1 pm, dust off your red dress and dancing shoes and gather on the misty moors of the Woodford Reserve for 'The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever 2017'. This fun day will pay tribute to 1970’S British pop sensation Kate Bush and her 1978 hit 'Wuthering Heights'.
The Woodford Academy is granting a special discounted entry of $2/person to everyone dressed as Kate on the day. This will grant all ‘Kates’ access to the museum, cafe and amenities as well as the Academy’s current exhibition ‘Ephemeral Threads’, a collaborative sensory and tactile exhibition by floral artist Edith Pass & photographer Jennifer Leahy.
Originating at the 2013 Brighton Fringe Festival, in an open field with 300 participants dressed as ‘Kate’ to perform Bush’s ethereal dance from the original clip. From 2013’s success, the Wuthering Heights Day has grown rapidly in popularity, expanding globally to hold performances in cities across Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Israel and the Scandinavian Regions (Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Denmark & Sweden).
While entry is free there will be buckets collecting donations to cover the cost of equipment hire and the raising of funds for The Altitude Project, a series of contemporary art exhibitions to be held on heritage listed sites in the Blue Mountains including the Linden Observatory and The Aviator Parks of Katoomba. These sites will include a tribute to aviator Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia. Last year a donation was made to a local women’s domestic violence service.
Mr Darcy and Heathcliff will make an appearance again this year and the fun continues afterwards as we paint the town red at The Metropole Hotel in Katoomba who have kindly donated the upstairs venue for the after celebrations.
Wuthering Heights is an unfunded community event made possible by the support of the Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, The Woodford Academy (National Trust), Shine Dance School, The Metropole Hotel Katoomba and the Blue Mountains City Council.
