Blue Mountains Is the First Stop On ‘The National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017’ Tour

Showing at the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery from Saturday, 1st July through to Sunday 13th of August ’17. The National Photographic Portraiture Prize (NPPP) tour promises to highlight the works of Australia’s most promising, aspiring and professional portrait photographers. A special premier night will be held 6 pm - 8 pm Friday, June 30th.

These images, in one single click, manage to showcase Australia’s true diversity and deep ideations. All entrants exhibit amazing technique and a high level of introspection.

From over 3000 national field entries, Gary Grealy’s portrait of ‘Richard Morecroft and Alison Mackay’ (shown above) has been titled the winner of 2017. With John Benavente’s portrait ‘Renaissance Rose’ and Brett Canet-Gibson’s portrait ‘Mastura’ both receiving highly commended.

The NPPP tour has now been running for 10 years and is a true celebration of one of the oldest fields of photography. Don’t miss out on seeing all these captured moments.

For those who can’t get enough of NPPP ’17, there will a free lunchtime Curator’s talk held with Dr Sarah Engledow on Saturday, July 1st, 11 am-12 pm. RSVPs appreciated at reception or call 4780 5410.

More information on the Curator’s talk can be found here.

Alternatively, on Saturday 29th July, 10 am – 3 pm enthusiasts can have a more hands-on experience with a Digital Photography Workshop. Held in  conjunction with the National Photographic Portrait Exhibition and the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, the workshop will be led by local artist and photographer David Brazil, offering all participants the opportunity to engage and apply their knowledge across three practical demonstrations. Cost is $150 or $145 for Insight Members.
