Join Gallery ONE88 in celebrating the final weekend of ‘Time, Tide And Decay’ – an intriguing new series exhibit from acclaimed painter Shirley Peters.
The beauty of natural destruction on isolated beaches are highly featured in this series. Shirley’s time travelling to the ‘untouched’ beaches and natural waterways of Recherche Bay in Tasmania and the NSW south coast served her inspirations.
“Composition and tonal contrast are my emphases, with a muted colour palette. I sketch or paint ‘en plein-air’, then re-paint from photographs in the studio. Tides (and waves) ebb and flow. I prefer to paint at low tide, where the sand patterns and rocks emerge, wet and clean. The tannin waters, where vegetation decays, make exquisite patterns and merge with clear salt water in the flowing high tide. Time and decay: Thousands of years have passed with similar views, the trees fall, disintegrate and are replaced: their leaves and bark break down in the creeks; there is no difference over time, and providing we preserve our natural heritage, this cycle of life will continue.” – artist Shirley Peters.
